Gorrick is back, bigger and better than ever for 2006

by Luke Webber, 09 Dec 05.

Exodus have confirmed sponsorship of the renowned Spring Series until 2008, providing riders reward for their efforts in the form of top rate mountain bike holidays to exotic destinations like Southern Thailand, the Turquoise Coast of Turkey, Picos de Europa in Spain and the High Atlas mountains of Morocco.

You don't have to be super fast to be a winner though, as Gorrick are giving away Exodus mountain bike holidays throughout the series in their famous prize draws – with a twist for 2006 – be there to win killer prize draws so make sure you stick around to be in with a chance of escaping the typical British weather.

If you are a speed demon make sure you head to the front of the Elite, Sport and SuperMaster fields as these are the races where series points mean serious prizes – more holidays from Exodus!

The Series set-up for 2006 is the same as previous years: riders will race around the best XC trails the south has to offer in the hope of being crowned king of Gorrick. Points are notoriously hard to come by, with only the top eight of each race getting ranked, ensuring the best will come out on top.

Last year saw five fantastic dry races, with Specialized 24 hour friends Jenn O'Connor and Kate Potter flying round. They will be returning to race in a series Kate obviously enjoyed: "The Gorrick series 2005 was my first taste of riding down south. I wish I could make more of the races as the quality of single track and fast trails make it an excellent series for both first time racer to pro elite. The organisation is superb and the courses well designed, with plenty of twisting singletrack to keep you grinning from ear to ear."

Jenn used the series to prepare for yet another winning 24 hour solo season, paving the way for both domestic and overseas success: "The Gorrick series was a perfect start to the season, and the courses were great fun, challenging and all-weather. Not that that matters since it's always sunny Down South, right?!"

Expect the usual bumper Gorrick fields as XC rivals and friends look to boost their early form or simply brag about beating their mates.

As ever at Gorrick's it's cheaper to pre-enter and now its quicker too with 'Entry Express' for race day number collection, TimeLaps race timing, great local bike shops offering their wares, a burger van for pre and post race carbo loading and after the event the full low-down of the days events with rider comment courtesy of roving reporter Luke Webber.

To hold all of this new information, along with race photos comes the new Gorrick website. Everything you loved about the old, but with a fresh new look courtesy of Paul Howard. Go check it out for yourself now and print off an entry form (which should be available during the week of 12th Dec) while you're at it. See you in the new year!
