Brass Monkey 2 2024

Round 2 was titled The New Year Hangover, I'm renaming it Noah's Revenge, as without his Ark it sure made for a wet and wild ride. Would you believe me if I told you on New Years Eve I rode three laps and there was barely a puddle. But hey there's no accounting for our weather. There was certainly a sense of fun hooning into hub deep puddles and streams, sending a wave of spray like a powerboat. Gorrick has always lived by the phrase "we run all-weather venues." Today again proves that as bikes don't clog with thick mud or clay doubling their weight. Anyone care to remember Mountain Mayhem 24hrs?

I hope riders can take the positives and learning experience of such conditions... use your mind as much as your pedals. Consider the conditions under tyre every bike length, sometimes the fastest firmest line is through the water. Other times the mud as it gets churned up becomes hard work, look for a line just to the edge, and constantly move around the trail. After today I highly recommend a post race bike inspection. Replace brake pads and get them bedded in, lube the drivetrain, check bottom brackets, bearings and jockey wheels haven't seized. Far better to do this now than find out at the next race things aren't quite right. Also thankyou to Mountain Trax who help riders pre-race with small service issues.

A big well done and thankyou to the riders. Plus our sponsors and Gorrick Team for putting so much work into making these events happen.
