If ever there was a vote for favourite course of the year surely today's at Porridgepot Hill would be right up there on the podium. It was just superb and quite different to many races held here previously. There was so much ace singletrack that flowed well which often lead into very fast descents requiring a good degree of concentration and bike handling to maximise your reward for the climbs. Oh did someone mention climbs? [ insert evil laugh ]. One in particular no one will forget since it's been affectionately named "Pete the Ba***rd Climb", in honour of said man who designed the course. It may only have been 80m long, but it went something like; steepening from the bottom, loose sand and gravel, a little bit rooty... Into the last 15m going much steeper, with a few more roots, just as the ground got looser making traction tricky. Many riders cleared it, many didn't, but what a challenge. It might be the new Hecklers Hill.
With just the final round to go on 22nd March the Series Points are all to play for to decide who will be the 2015 Saddle Skedaddle winners with full Prize Presentations after each batch of races. The updated points scores will be published later this week.
There was one other race held today as Cambridge took on Oxford in the annual Varsity Challenge. It was Oxford who took the honours, so well done to them.
Kevin Sheldrake was on course taking photos so look out for his web link on Monday. He's got a good eye for a shot and will try to capture you at your most spectacular. A high resolution image is only a fiver so treat yourself once in a while.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at Round 4, so don't miss out put your pre-entry in today.
