Gorrick 12:12 Torq in your Sleep - entries closing soon

by Jane Lucas, 11 Aug 13.

Not long to go now until the 12:12 Torq in your Sleep. The 8 mile figure of 8 course is set and everything is pretty well in place, so if you want to ride and haven’t entered yet, this is the time to get your entry in as there is no entry on the day. The very latest that entry will remain open is late on Sunday 18th August. The only categories for which we will be taking entries on the day (from 2pm on Saturday in the Marquee) are the Children’s Races which are at 3pm on Saturday afternoon and She Torqs (1 lap for female riders only) which follows them at 4pm. Both are part of our ongoing fundraising this year for the Hants and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. If you are at the venue on Saturday, Registration will be open from 7-9pm for the collection of your Registration pack and confirmation of Team riders if necessary.

Nighttime brings out the TORQ in you

Camping at the venue, which is from noon Saturday until 2pm Monday, will be in the same area as last year. There are plenty of trackside spots and priority for these will be given to Solo riders initially. You can expect all the usual facilities around the Arena including hot showers. The catering will open at 2pm on Saturday and then close late and open early throughout the weekend.

Plenty of trackside camping and trade stands filling the arena

Registration opens again at 8am on Sunday morning, as does the course for pre-riding which we always strongly recommend. At 11am there is a compulsory rider briefing by the Marquee before the 12 hour event start at 12. The 6 hour Solo riders will start at 3pm and finish at 9pm. Later on our DJ under the bridge will start his set and, before it is too dark, you must have your lights ready to use before switching them on at 8pm.

The start is a controlled pace leadout behind the quad.

The course will close at midnight and you can then complete the lap you are doing before returning and gathering in the Marquee for chocolates and free beer and drinks. About 1am we should be ready to present the prizes to the category winners before doing the killer prize draw (for which all riders over 18 are entered if they put their race number in the ‘bin’ in the marquee) for lots of other goodies – it’s killer because you have to be there to claim the prize, if not it gets redrawn! As ever our sponsors have been incredibly generous with the superb prizes that they are providing.

Free ale and wine from Longdog Brewery to pass the night away.

So this year the event has something to offer everyone: a Toddler Track in the Arena plus Children’s Races with medals for all finishers; a female rider only event which offers the opportunity for a leisurely or raced lap before mingling with riders who can offer help and advice over free Pimms and chocolate about things like nutrition, training, maintenance, kit, new bikes and riding professionally and of course a major well organised 12 hour event for all comers with a great course and atmosphere.

See the 12:12 section on the website for our sponsors and full details and also 12:12 Facebook and Gorrick Twitter for regular updates and info.

Entry is by online pre-entry only at mbsawebsite.com. Please don’t leave it too long before you enter if you want to be sure of a place. Pairs and Team confirmations can then be done on the day, when you sign on and collect your Registration Packs complete with goodies and spot prizes.

Live music and lights under the Bridge to Nowhere, which will feature no less than 3 times on the course this year.

Dropping into the stables ditch which is steeper and rootier than it looks, worth pre-riding for the best line.
