Gorrick Kawasaki 100 Enduro report: Perfect Porridgepot

Ten miles around Porridgepot, how is that possible? The Gorrick course building team started planning this months ago and it clearly showed. Thoughtful use of the terrain and a propensity for "intestinal" switching back and forth across the hillsides seemed to make for plenty of fun descents and not too much climbing. Although that's all relative if you rode 7 laps, 70 miles, and I'm sure someone can give us the statistics for the amount of ascending. The only useful stat I got was apparently burning 6500 calories, so that of course deserved a bacon butty and chips to fuel the deficit!

George Budd wasn't keen to spend too long in the saddle during the 7 lap race so promptly dispatched all his contenders with a blistering completion time of 5h 40m. Well done George and we hope you'll enjoy your prize watching a round of the British Superbikes courtesy of new headline sponsor Kawasaki. In the ladies race local rider Jo Munden, who incidentally was helping to mark the course on Saturday as a "warm-up", paced the race to complete in 6h54m.

Michael Cotty was the master of consistency and winner of the five laps. All his laps differed by no more than 42 seconds, now that is pacing to perfection. You can view all the results and lap time breakdowns via the Results link above this item, and Photographs will be available soon on www.joolzedymond.com.

Gorrick would like to thank all the sponsors and partners for their support in keeping the Gorrick 100 alive and kicking at it's new venue at Porridgepot Hill. A three year partnership with Kawasaki Motors UK is of great benefit and General Manager Howard Dale had this to say after the race...

"I've raced Gorrick's for 15 years and loved every minute of them. I felt supporting this event was a great way for us to invest and to put something back into the sport. There is a natural tie-in between all things two wheeled. Plenty of people were asking us about the motorbikes in use by the marshals and the models we had on display. Judging by your riders need for speed we'll bring our road bikes next time. In between manning our stand today I found time to ride one lap and was impressed at the quality and entertainment the trails gave. Just give me a Kawasaki next time!"

So what's next on the racing agenda? The Army Cycling Union Are You Tough Enough Enduro is on the 7th July just over the road at Frith Hill, followed by Gorrick's weekender and biggest event of the season the 12:12 Torq In Your Sleep Enduro on the 25th August. See you there.
