Torq In Your Sleep: Venue and Course Update
by Paul Howard, 26 Aug 11.
We're live from the arena and happy to report everything is looking shipshape and ready for your arrival from Saturday 12pm. New this year is Quaver Catering who will be serving good hot and cold food during Saturday. Then opening again for breakfast on Sunday right through to the prizegiving in the small hours of Monday morning when you get FREE BEER.
The camping area has been added to giving you the choice of two fields. Soloists particularly can setup their pit zone trackside just beyond the start straight. The second solo pit zone is approx 1 mile into the lap in the field crossing prior to Pheasant Plucker Hill. May we request that ONLY SOLOISTS use these trackside areas. Teams and others can camp a little further out beyond the soloists, thank you.
We know many of you have been watching the weather and wondering how the course is holding up and want to know the answer to "What tires for 12:12?" Well there has been a fair dose of rain which stopped Friday morning so a lot of the areas open to the sun and wind have begun drying. But you will have to ride through some standing water and a few areas of "sloppy loam" which will no doubt cut up and expose slippery roots. There is no sticky mud here, so the loam washes off very easily and won't clog your bike. So tires... I would suggest a front tire of 2.1 to 2.25 width with some grip to help in the bends and loose loam. On the rear a faster rolling tire is beneficial as grip at the back is a lesser requirement. Brands such as Schwalbe's Nobby Nic on the front and Racing Ralph on the rear are ideal. Though I suggest you preride the course on Saturday afternoon to make up your own mind. And don't forget to set suitable tire pressures, 20-28psi front, 25-35psi rear.
All the Gorrick and Army Cycling Union team look forward to seeing you. And don't forget.... HAVE FUN!!
