Preview: Merida Brass Monkeys R3 - The New Year Hangover - 23rd January

by Jane Lucas, 21 Jan 11.

Those of you who rode last year, will know to expect picturesque surroundings with lakes and mature pine woods and slightly more challenging terrain than rounds 1 and 2. There will be full facilities including the heated marquee and trade stands. Sure there is some climbing but then you get the great payback in the form of fun descents such as Bunker Buster, Staircase, Off the Brakes, Slash & Shake, plus lots more. The lap is around 8 miles long (see Garmin Connect for a map of the course) and is free draining so there will be very little mud.

Riders who want to be in with a chance of a winning a Series top 3 prize must have already scored points in rounds 1 and 2, and will also need to do so at round 3. This rewards the most consistent overall riders. Race prize presentations and the overall series presentations will be held as soon as possible after the main contenders have completed their races.

Riders who wish to finish before their allotted race time is up, for example by "lurking" before the finish, may do so but should keep out of the way of riders who are continuing for another lap. Bear in mind you may get overtaken so could be losing valuable points towards your Series Position.

Entry to the event & Collection of race numbers

1. Is by PRE-ENTRY ONLY, and due to the popularity of the event, entry closed on Wednesday as it is now full. Please don’t turn up if you are not entered, AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RIDE.

3. You need to bring your MBSA receipt with you in case of any query.

Start Times

4 hour race starts 10.30hrs
2 hour race starts 11.30hrs
1 hour fun race starts 12.00hrs

The Venue

Parkhurst Hill is located near Tweseldown Race Course on Bourley Road, Fleet, Hampshire. There is not a post code for the venue so the nearest is GU52 8DY. This takes you close to the junction of the B3013 Beacon Hill Road and Bourley Road where you will find Gorrick signs to the venue. The entrance is a little past the Tweseldown Race Course on your right.

If approaching from the East along Bourley Road, i.e. from Aldershot, you'll find the entrance marked on your left.

There is plenty of parking, with a small amount trackside. Feedzones will be within this trackside parking area (which is prior to the finish line) and just beyond the finish line as the first climb begins.
