Gorrick 12:12 - Event Update Live from the Arena!

by Jane Lucas / Paul Howard, 27 Aug 10.

The third edition of Torq in Your Sleep is almost here. The course and arena are ready and waiting, so bring on the sunshine...

Registration (based in the Marquee) will be open from 6pm to 7pm Saturday evening and from 8am to 10.45am on Sunday morning for the collection of Rider Packs (complete with spot prizes in some of them) and Team Confirmations. Please bring your receipt with you in case of any query. If you haven't entered then sorry, but the event is completely FULL and there will be absolutely NO ENTRY ON THE DAY.

The marquee grows wider each year... 21 metres in all. The loos look lonely in the middle of the campsite, just wait till there's a 1000 people here!

Course Conditions

No doubt you're wondering how the course is holding up after all the recent rain. Well we're very pleased to report the going is "good to firm". Yes there are some puddles as expected and in places the soft loam will feel sluggish as it's soaked up the water so it might go a bit squishy under 1000's of tyres. But we think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Just watch out for The Puddle of Doom - it's back and deeper than ever - Joolze will be pleased! The established trails such as Banksey, Minley Maze, and Back to Front are riding really well.

So now you'll be asking "What tyres for 12:12?". Paul has been riding the course and would recommend something grippy up front such as a Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2.1 to give extra control through the many twists, turns and exposed roots. Use a lesser treaded tyre on the rear, a Racing Ralph for example, as there isn't a great need for climbing traction but it will help with straight line speed. Definitely no mud tyres. The course will be open for pre-riding on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning for you to make your own choices.

See you out there, it's gonna be fun. Wrap up warm in the evening though, it was 12degC and falling at 9pm tonight in the Arena.
