The Spring Series it may be but for once we felt blessed by a pleasant summer day; 20degC, warm sun and clear skies - lovely racing weather to tempt out the hoards. The venue change from Tunnel Hill to Surrey Hill didn't disappoint either as the 5.5 mile lap provided a good mix of terrain and surfaces. You had to get your head down on the fireroads to maintain a good speed, but save enough juice to power up the steep climbs, then keep the legs supple to manoeuvre through the sweet but pounding singletrack. What a blast! And what a great taster for the forthcoming Gorrick 100 Enduro Challenge - this year sponsored by Mountain Trax with a great range of prizes from Gore Bike Wear, Fox Clothing, and Altura. Get you entry in now. Full press release to follow on the website this week.
No doubt you'll have scanned through the race results by now and are just waiting to find your photo as a memento of the day. Joolze and Dave Dymonds photographs are now available to view and buy on their website.
The adventure cycling holiday specialists Saddle Skedaddle provided another prize for the random prize draw which went to 10th place Supermaster finisher Cedric Lassonde. And remember you can have a chance to win a holiday just by entering and starting your race. Natasha Barry from Hampshire was one such previous winner and had this to say about her Awesome Ambleside trip to The Lake District...
"I have just come back from a fantastic Easter weekend break with the Saddle Skedaddle crew on the ‘Awesome Ambleside’ trip. We traversed the technical climbs and descents of the rocky slate tracks while enjoying the gorgeous views of the Lake District. I enjoyed the challenging terrain of slippery rocks and the thrill of bombing down the descents. The guides were excellent and it was a fantastic way to spend a weekend in the company of a group of like-minded biking enthusiasts. A really well organised weekend meant that very little had to be carried and we were regularly met by the support vehicle which supplied us with tea and snacks. An added bonus is the luxury of having a great spread of food awaiting you at lunchtime, while you having nothing to do but recall the highlights of the morning’s ride."
So we're now looking forward to the final round (6) of the Spring Series, which due to the snow cancelled Round 1 is to be held on the 16th May at Frith Hill near Deepcut. If you had pre-entered Round 1 your entry will automatically have been carried over to Round 6, unless you advised us to cancel it. If you are unsure please contact Gorrick by email at info@gorrick.com.
All the Series Prize Presentations will be made on the day so please make an effort to be there. As we changed the point structure this year to go down to 15th position in each race there are many more people in with a chance of series qualification and some close battles to determine the final outcome. To qualify as a series finisher you must have scored points in a minimum of three rounds.
And finally looking ahead to late summer, the 12:12 TORQ In Your Sleep Enduro on the 29th August is now open for pre-entry on the MBSA website. The first 100 rider entries will all receive a free t-shirt and we expect the entry to reach capacity quickly so get a move on. If you are entering a team but don't yet know who all your team mates will be don't worry, put your entry in now and complete at least the Team Captains name, you can finalise the details prior to the event.
See you back at Swinley Forest in a fortnight for the Gorrick Enduro.
