Gorrick Enduro pre-event news

by Jon Lucas, 25 Apr 07.

Sunday 6 May is Gorrick 100 Enduro Challenge day, which is your chance to take part in the South's only Enduro event and it has a unique flavour all of its own. You choose the number of 10 mile laps that you are going to go for and that is your challenge. Do you race or pace? Just complete the course or compete against your fellow rider? It's so much more than a marked ride around the countryside, and of course you receive an award if you pass the challenge you set yourself!

This year the Enduro is generously sponsored by Gore Bike Wear, who will be providing some fantastic pieces of kit as prizes for various categories, as well as displaying their range of clothing and some kit to try on the day.

To keep you occupied whilst you wait for your start, Orange will be displaying their full range of bikes, including the highly rated '5' and there will be demo bikes to try out during the day. Sundog eyewear, our new Autumn Classic sponsors, will also be displaying their superb range of quality eyewear from Canada at surprisingly realistic prices. Of course, all our usual trade stands will also be there, with Mountain Trax helping with last minute mechanicals and 1st Gear Cycles on hand with supplies.

Many of you will be delighted to learn that trainee sports massage therapists Nikki and & Issy from Farnborough College, will be on hand all day to loosen up your leg muscles and ease the cramps, whilst also looking out for their partners who are taking part in the event. The charity Heart UK will be manning a stand, where you can learn about cholesterol, have a cholesterol test and discuss your diet with dieticians and nurses from the charity. They have just launched their 'redlaces' campaign to raise awareness of high cholesterol and these will be on sale at the event. As at all Gorrick events, TORQ Fitness will be on hand with their very popular TORQ bars and energy drinks to keep you energised, and Guy Swarbrick our roving photographer will be there all day recording your efforts. So all in all it will be a busy day even if you're not riding!

Pre-entries close on TUESDAY 1 MAY but entries will be available on the day. Event Registration for the Enduro does get very busy, so priority will be given to those with earlier start times. Please note that there is no overnight camping available at the venue or pre-riding of the course and so the gates will not be open until 7.30am, so PLEASE do not arrive before that time as you will block the access road for the team. Lastly, there will be a marked area trackside where you can rest and leave your supplies while you ride, especially your water - do please make sure that you bring plenty with you, as there will be none available on site.

TRAVELLING BY TRAIN
You can leave belongings with us at Registration or in the trackside Pit Area.

  • Martin's Heron (Bracknell)
Take the B3430 south. Cross the A322 via the cycleway and footbridge, then head for The Look Out Discovery Centre. Navigating through the forest isn't the simplest of tasks, but you need to head for Vicarage Lane at the eastern side/base of Surrey Hill. Ideally print out the Swinley Forest Map (pdf) and follow the red route.
