Test Valley Tour Hot Challenge

by Jane Lucas, 04 May 10.

Just a reminder that Sunday 23 May sees the first event of this year's Test Valley Tour brought to you, as usual, by Gorrick MBC. The offroad Hot Challenge (a timed event but not a race) starts and finishes at Vernham Dean deep in the Hampshire countryside. (Postcode SP11 0HB / Grid Ref: SU345564).

This year the three marked circular route choices are 80km, 50km and the family friendly 30km. These all offer some of the most scenic offroad riding in the south on quiet lanes, tracks and bridleways of the Hampshire/Berkshire/Wiltshire borders, including the memorable singletrack through 'The Woods'. All riders will receive a free Torq energy bar or gel and free energy drink at the water stops along the course and a memento when they finish.

Registration opens at 8.45am and Start Times are from 9 to 11am. This year's Tour sponsor Saddle Skedaddle will offer every rider the chance to take part in a Prize Draw for which a superb cycling holiday is the prize. Vernham Dean pavilion, where you start and finish, has full facilities and a chance to relax and chat before and afterwards with refreshments, delicious home-made cakes and a barbecue going throughout the day.

You can enter ONLINE at the website now, and pre-entries will close on Tuesday 18 May but, as with all Test Valley Tour events, you can just turn up on the day and enter then too. Full details of this event and the others are at www.testvalleytour.com

The other two dates for your diary are:

  • Sunday 4 July – New Forest Road Sportive and Challenge
  • Sunday 31 October – Off Road Cool Challenge
