Nick Evans

One so young and yet so experienced! Nick has been a Gorrick regular since he took up the sport 9 years ago. He continues to race at Expert level, hoping one day to finally break into the Elite ranks at National races.

Age: 22

Riding for: Beyond Mountain Bikes / Specialized / West Drayton MBC / New Ultimate Components (and I've yet to find an entry form it fits on!)

Category: Expert

How long have you been riding? 9 years

What bike do you ride? 2009 S-Works Epic

When did you start cycling? As a young 'un.

What got you started in Mountain Biking?
I always used to go riding with my Dad along towpaths and such; it just progressed from there!

Can you remember your first bike?
Oh yes, a 20" steel Universal thing, it had 12 gears, but I wasn't strong enough to use the shifters!

Nick Evans
Nick relishes the challenge of custom building his bikes to
achieve super light weights, and he has an encylopedic knowledge
(some say anorak like) of all the Shimano part numbers!

What was your first race?
1st October 2000, West Drayton race at Ash Ranges, I was 3rd Juvenile.

How long have you been riding Gorricks?
9 years, I remember my first one, Surrey Hill on the 10th December 2000, it poured with rain, and I didn't own any winter kit, so just rode in shorts and short sleeves. Any more than 2 laps and I'd have got hypothermia!

What's your favourite Gorrick venue?
Hard to say, I like fast flowing trails, so maybe Porridgepot Hill.

Best Gorrick moment?
Coming into race 1 of the 2003 series after injury, I'd planned to just ride round the Open category for a laugh, but I won easily! Moved up to Sport after that, and I've not been higher than 4th since!

Nick Evans
Nick presently races in the Expert class with ambitions to hit the big time in Elite.

Have you got any major MTB ambitions?
To get my Elite license.

Best piece of advice you've been given?
Always have fun!

What advice would you give to any newcomer?
Make sure you always enjoy yourself. If you really don't want to ride your bike, don't! You'll only end up hating it, and who wants that!?

Do you have a favourite training ride?
You can't beat a good ride around the Surrey Hills on a summer Sunday!
