Rider Profiles: Jon Moyse
Jon Moyse
A keen Gorrick regular, Jon has recently set up the Progression Fitness team that we regularly see at races blasting around in their spangly blue and orange kit. As a full time fitness instructor Jon certainly has his hands full but still finds plenty of time to get down and dirty at his local Gorrick events with the rest of the team!
Age: 37
Riding for: Progression Fitness
What do you do for a living?
I live in Swindon, run my own business called Progression Fitness which is a Fitness Studio situated at Newbury rugby club. Would have to say my favourite colours are orange and blue, favourite pre ride meal is porridge, favourite post ride is anything that works with a cup of tea.
Tell us about your new team.
Started up the new team Progression Fitness this year and have 6 male riders and 2 female. I'm really looking to develop the team from a fitness point of view as my background is sport science and have the facilities to carry out regular fitness test and other support. We will be looking to attend all Gorrick, Southern xc some national and enduro events. Two of the riders are currently doing their BC coaching awards and have plans to become a Go Ride club with youth development in and around Newbury.
What bike do you ride?
A Scott Scale Ltd is my xc race bike.
When did you start cycling?
Have always ridden bikes, mainly road bikes growing up in the Devon countryside.
What got you started in mountain biking?
The adrenaline side of it, and something to replace a snowboard, as snowboarding is pretty limited over here, so I was more downhill to start with.
What was you first race and how did you get on?
It was a Gorrick 2003 Black Wood, I came 26th in the Masters, just couldn't believe how exhausting it was, but have been hooked ever since.
Favourite Gorrick venue?
I would have to say Porridgepot Hill.
Have you got any major MTB ambitions?
My ambition has always been a top 20 NPS Masters finish and now also to help develop the team to full potential.
