Merida Brass Monkeys R3 - Hungry Hill Results and Photographs

by Paul Howard, 22 Jan 12. Results [  ] Photos [ 1» ]

Hundreds of Brass Monkey's came out of hibernation to test their legs at the Hungry Hill finale, and what a leg tester it was with 1000ft of climbing per 8 mile lap. Split nicely with all the tough ascending first, followed by a great mix of flat trails on the top plateau, then onto the final fast downhill which is always a blast. Trail conditions were exceptional as they have been at every round, so much so that "Mild Monkeys" seems a more appropriate title. All the contenders for the overall series positions got their just rewards. Thanks to the sponsors who we are grateful for supporting the races, namely: Merida Bikes, SRAM, Kenda, For Goodness Shakes, Mule Bar, Four4th Lights, Nomad, 1st Gear Cycles. Full results and race photographs are available via the links above.

To start the XC race season proper make a date in your diary for Round 1 of the Saddle Skedaddle Spring Series starting at Tunnel Hill on the 5th February. More race preview info coming soon.

Merida Brass Monkeys R3 - 22nd January - Last chance to enter

by Jane Lucas, 13 Jan 12.

The last round of the very popular Brass Monkeys Series is at Hungry Hill, Aldershot. The picturesque 8 mile lap containing 1000ft of total ascent will encourage 'granny ring racing', but it will all be worth it for the great fast flowing descents and the spectacular views which follow. With entries selling out in record time for the 2nd round of the Merida Brass Monkeys enduro, this was definitely the race to be at. Even Jack Frost couldn’t wait to make an appearance, his chilly breath certainly adding a festive feel to this pre Christmas leg spinner!

The Christmas shopping was put on hold for a sell-out round 2 of the Merida Brass Monkeys festive fun at Tunnel Hill. Always a favourite venue amongst riders there was a good mix of the classic old trails such as P45, Deja Vue and Sleeping Squaddies plus some newbies; such as the as yet unnamed bottle losing descent to the railway bridge, superb fun. If you wish to ride Tunnel Hill and any other Ministry of Defence Areas please visit the Trail Action Group to understand the requirements of riding in these sensitive areas. TAG are liasing with the Army to ensure cycle access is maintained. Have a great Christmas break and we'll see you all in the New Year ready for Round 3 on the 22nd January at Hungry Hill near Aldershot.

"20 degrees of separation"... who'd have thought it, this time last year we rolled up to race in -5degC on icy trails and today +15degC on equally dry trails. A massive turnout in both the 2hr and 4hr races ensured plenty of action with some stunning lap times and sprints right to the finish line. What a fantastic way to start the Brass Monkeys series and we look forward to seeing you all again at Tunnel Hill on the 18th December where you are guaranteed another awesome course.
